Communities are more than just the sum of the individuals within them.   It’s the opportunities provided to individuals by being part of that community as well as the opportunity to eventually give back that really bonds a community together.  That’s why Rotarians choose to give back.

Fourth Plenary Session:

Sunday 11th March 2012, commencing 1:15pm

Building Communities

Disadvantage in our community is often compounded by the absence of opportunities and support  for individuals to find their way out of disadvantage. Building successful communities means building these opportunities and strengthening the support we provided to ensure all in our community can thrive. As a Rotarian, when those we know ask about Rotary and why we choose to lend our time to serving the community, it can sometimes be difficult to completely convey just what it means to be a part of Rotary. But nothing provides a better example than seeing Rotary in action and how we seek to build communities. And there is no better example of Rotary in action than the showcase of Rotary on offer at the 2012 Melbourne Rotary District 9800 Conference.

The 2012 Green Ticket is purchasable to admit non-Rotarians to our Final Plenary Session at the 2012 Conference, “Building Communities”.

In this session, Professor Marcia Langton and former Rotary Indigenous Scholar Karen Hill will discuss the differences the Rotary Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Tertiary Scholarships are making, whilst some of Australia’s most prominent business figures will provide addresses on the planning and actions being undertaken to build communities in a socially, economically and environmentally sustainable way. These addresses will also provide insight into the way that Rotary can work with the community and business to ensure we all achieve more.

The Final Plenary Session will also include entertainment featuring ARIA Award Winners The Choir of Hope and Inspiration led by Jonathon Welch and the Young Voices of Melbourne Choir led by Mark O’Leary as well as closing speeches from Rotary officials. A fully catered afternoon tea will be provided as part of this session.

Whether a colleague, friend or family member of a Rotarian, or just an intrigued member of the public, this a chance to see what Rotary is all about – inspiring speakers, the fellowship of people who want to give back to their community and the opportunity to hear how it’s possible to put good intentions into action.
