Why would an organisation spend over a billion dollars to achieve a goal if it didn’t get even a dollar back in profit in return?
Second Plenary Session:
Saturday 10th March 2012, commencing 1:45pm
Health & Wellbeing: Where We Can Make a Difference
Not long ago, Polio was endemic in more than 125 countries worldwide. It crippled 1,000 people a day, most of them children. Then Rotary stepped in to help. Since 1985, Rotary together with its partners like the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation have spent over a billion dollars in eradicating Polio. Today, we are on the verge of eliminating the disease. Forever.
As a Rotarian, when those we know ask about Rotary and why we choose to lend our time to serving the community, it can sometimes be difficult to completely convey just what it means to be a part of Rotary. But nothing provides a better example than seeing Rotary in action. And there is no better example of Rotary in action than the showcase of Rotary on offer at the 2012 Melbourne Rotary District 9800 Conference.
The 2012 Red Ticket is purchasable to admit non-Rotarians to our Second Plenary session at the 2012 Conference, “Health & Wellbeing: Where We Can Make a Difference”.
In this session, inspirational speakers discussing mental health, men's and women's health and indigenous health will be joined by keynote addresses by Professor Tony Costello, Professor Jeffrey Rosenfeld, leading surgeon Wirginia Maixner and humanitarian Moira Kelly to discuss how we can make the biggest difference in supporting the improvement of health outcomes for local and remote communities.
Whether a colleague, friend or family member of a Rotarian, or just an intrigued member of the public, this a chance to see what Rotary is all about – inspiring speakers, the fellowship of people who want to give back to their community and the opportunity to hear how it’s possible to put good intentions into action.
The Second Plenary Session will also include entertainment featuring The Jazz Singers from Princes Hill Secondary College with Conductor Miriam Crellin and presentations showing the work of local Rotary clubs in their communities and communities abroad. A fully catered afternoon tea will be provided as part of this session.
